Hosting a student
We have students who come to the UK and Ireland for both our short term programmes (usually from 1 week to 4 weeks) and long term students (usually 6 months or longer)
The students are here not only to improve their English, but also to experience life with a family in the UK or Ireland, and expect you to treat them as if they were a member of your own family.
The basic requirements: a bed in own bedroom, with adequate lighting and work and storage space, with three meals a day (including an adequate packed lunch each weekday served in a plastic box), and that you treat the student as a guest but also as a member of your household.
Meals should be taken with your family with normal menus and the students should be involved in your normal family activities. If you have a son or daughter, it is always appreciated if they involve the student in some of their own and their friends’ activities.
As well as meeting and dropping off your student at the first day arrival and last day departure point, you have to take your student to the study centre on the first day in school.
Towards the end of the stay, you will usually be invited to the student’s Farewell Party, which is the student’s way of saying "Thank You".
If you are interested in hosting a student, please complete our online application form and we will get back to you.
Please also see our current CHE host family areas to check if we have groups in your area. If we don't, have you thought about becoming one of our group co-ordinators yourself! Or perhaps doing home tuition.
